Did you know that before a Bulldog Football game at Bement, either the drum majorette or a baton twirler strutted towards the goal post and with the crowds encouragement, threw her baton up and over the bar in hopes of catching the baton and therefore a Bulldog victory was sure to come?
Thats what drum majorettes and twirlers did for over 40 years and at this years Alumni Banquet, these dedicated young women and three young men will be honored with a special program. The event will be held Saturday, September 18 in the schools cafeteria at 6 p.m.
All drum majors and majorettes, as well as twirlers are invited to take part in the entire Homecoming festivities. With the cooperation of this years Marching Bulldogs, these past leaders of the band since 1946 will help lead the September 17th Homecoming parade at 2 p.m. and then later at the football game, lead the Marching Bulldogs out onto the field during the pre-game. You may even see a baton or two go over the bar at the south end of the field too, just for luck.
Every year, the Alumni Committee honors a fall activity during the dinner. Homecoming queens from Bement Homecoming inception to 1969 were honored a few years ago and last year, the football legacy of the Bement Bulldogs and South Piatt Wildcats was honored with a rousing DVD of football legends and coaches.
If you were a drum majorette, drum major or a twirler for the Bement Marching Bulldogs and would like to participate during September 17th (Fridays) activities and/or attend the Alumni Banquet on Sept. 18, please call 217-678-8338 by August 28th
