SIDERS DRUG STORE
Do you remember Siders Brothers Rexall Drug Store owned and operated by Dan and Ralph “Bus” Siders (with lots of help from their retired father Ray “Pop” Siders) from 1939 till 1966?
Do you remember the soda fountain and all the sweets it offered? In the early years for 5c you could get a small fountain Coke or single dip ice cream cone or for 10c a large Coke or double dip cone (and if lucky find a small square of paper in the bottom of the cone that said “free” for your next cone). Also, for 20c an ice cream soda, milk shake or sundae and enjoy eating them standing at the fountains bar visiting with friends or the Siders or take your treat back to one of the booths for a sit down time.
Of course, the Drug Store also offered all of the usual drugs, sundries, cosmetics, tobacco products (cigarettes at 15c) comic books & magazines, greeting cards, candy bars and chewing gum BUT the fountain items and related visiting and friendships are what I remember most happily --- do YOU remember?!?
